Westerpark Slightly edited mobile phone cam shots of the Westerpark in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my C905 phone. I love the Westerpark, it's huge, it's green and accessible to bikes...in the Summer you can swim in this little pool or play Tennis or just hang out on the grass, have a BBQ and enjoy the sunshine in the best city in the world...I am really looking forward to the next 7 months, it's gonna be fun :)

Of course Perry Como was not here, or if he was, he never told me...maybe because he's dead. I don't really know anything about Perry, his name just popped up in my head when I tried to think of a funky, wicked, descriptive title for this shot...maybe tomorrow. Almost weekend! 
Foam Party @ Dell Unedited mobile phone cam shot of Greenpeace taking over the Dell building in Amsterdam. Shot with my C905 mobile phone. Yesterday Greenpeace went to the building of Dell in Amsterdam and hung a giant sign on the front saying "Michael Dell Clean up Toxics". They also had this truck that had some foam-canon kind of installation and kept pumping soap-foam on the square in front of the main entrance. If they would have played some loud music, I'm sure lots of people would have joined the fun and made it an even cooler event. I've uploaded some pictures I took there to the local news site 'AT5' and they posted them, yay :)

I don't know if it's just me, but the guy on the right seemed to try to bully the guy on the left by staring him down...little did he know that I don't accept any bullying in my puddles, so I dunked his head into the water to calm him down and ran him over with my bike repeatedly when he would not adjust his behavior in an appropriate manner...yes, I can be stern (but fair!) if necessary ;-))

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'... Unedited shot of a giant Ferris wheel, reflected in a puddle in the Westerpark in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Dedicated to Martatje for liking my last shot of this ferris wheel so much that she made me send her a big print of it all the way to Portugal. I love the Ferris wheel in the park, it adds a certain flavor to the Amsterdam mix and even though I would never get on because I'm afraid of heights, I like watching it spinning around and around and around, wiiiuuuu, wiiiuuuu, wiiiuuuuuuu :D

Dedicated to Pamela, for liking Amsterdam and these birdies almost as much as I do. As you might know, we have a healthy, happy community of wild Rose-ringed Parakeets in the best city in the world, and now that it's Spring, they swarm all over town again, looking for the juiciest plants to eat and the best sunspots to chill. Lucky me, they just happen to love that big chestnut tree in my backyard, so every year I get to see them feasting&resting on that tree. I've also uploaded these shots to the website of the local news station AT5 and they posted them, yay :)

The Haarlemmerpoort remains one of my favorite buildings&photo motives in the best city in the world, every time I see it, I think for a second that I've biked too far and went all the way to Berlin, even though every child in Amsterdam knows that you'll end up in Detroit if you keep biking down that street long enough ;-)

Dam Bikey Unedited shot of my beloved Bikey, chilling out in the sunrise on the Dam square in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. This week was the first where I hopped back on Bikey and went to work after my horrible bike accident and it mostly went fine...obviously I was a bit nervous about biking through the best city in the world after that traumatizing experience, but except for 2 situations (once I almost fell when I rolled over a tree part while going into a steep corner, and one time I almost got hit by this Moroccan kid on his scooter, who just came flying out of this tiny alley but luckily missed me by a few inches, or I would not be sitting here writing this :) there was no danger and I really enjoyed roaming freely again through lovely, sunny, Spring'ish Amsterdam :))

The Gentle Giant Awakes Unedited shot of the Royal Palace on the Dam square in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. This week Spring has really started, the sun is shining, the air is warm(ish) and the girls are showing their longs legs again...within hours Amsterdam was transformed from a gray, wet, unfriendly place right back into the best city in the world and you can tell by the faces of the people that everybody is overjoyed and majorly excited to finally be able to hang out in the billions of bars, cafes, terraces, gardens and parks again, what a difference some yellow light can make :)

Trauma Therapy Slightly edited shot of the bench that caused my horrible bike accident almost 3 weeks ago , taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides some fiddling with contrast&saturation to make the bench look evil, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went back to the place of my horrible bike accident to face, confront and work away the trauma this unhappy event has left behind, I keep thinking about the accident and see/feel the last seconds of the crash over and over again in my mind (and my shoulder still hurts, ouch!), so I figured going back there might help. I took this shot, then edited it to make the bench look murderous and evil but it didn't work :)

I am going back to work today after spending 2 weeks at home following my horrible bike accident, waiting for my damaged shoulder to heal and allow me to take part in regular life in the best city in the world again...I think I'll take the tram instead of the bike though, don't want to risk anything, a Monday morning in Amsterdam is dangerous enough, haha ;-D

So, today Spring begins and it starts just like the Winter ended, rainy, gray and uneventful...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get some warm sunny days soon so that I can shed my thick fur and spend my days strolling around and hanging out in the parks with my friends, eating ice cream, having BBQs and laughing at the tourists walking around with a map, trying to find Spring ;-))

And it's the same freakin' cool zapper I've used in the last years, the funky wicked Panasonic DMC-FZ8. In the last year I really grew to love this cam despite its many buttons, options and settings (confusing!) and I started it using a lot lately (also to shoot my wicked movies) until my horrible bike accident 2 weeks ago where I smashed it when I fell...luckily my friend Mr P offered to sell me his Pana for a really good price and last night we met to finalize the deal...thank you so much dude, you've made my life better :)))

This puddle is one of my favorites, it's almost always available, even after weeks without a single drop of rain and it's surrounded by pretty buildings...of course it gets boring after a while to keep taking the same shot over and over again, but I try to add some variety and different angles to make it look interesting and different, hopefully I succeeded :)

He seems to indicate with his undecided stare that he's not sure if he should assume the role of worried boyfriend and kick me into the gutter for taking a low angle shot of the wider Punani area of his (wannabe) girlfriend or if he should let it slide and fess up to the fact that he wants to get some but can't get some, because she just thinks he's 'cute' (that's never gonna work out!) and not BF material...life can be so harsh sometimes, haha. Of course I made this whole story up, I'm sure they are having a satisfactory, healthy relationship and he can get some whenever he feels like it :-D

Even though I took this shot in the morning, it looks a bit like a starry night in the best city in the world...this was one of the last picture I took with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8, just 5 minutes later I had my horrible bike accident and broke it when I hit the ground...now the excitement of getting a new cam is sloooowly overshadowing the pain that I still have in my shoulder&leg, so soon everything's gonna be just fine&dandy :)

It is amazing how a bit of sunshine can make life so much more colorful, interesting and fun...as soon as the first rays touch the skin of the good folks of the best city in the world, we drop our clothes&bodies to the ground, call our friends, grab a drink&smoke and celebrate this beautiful thing called Spring...unfortunately 2010 has not (yet!) spoiled us with sunshine, so this scenario is mostly happening inside the 'Wishful Thinking' part of my distorted brain, haha :D

You might have heard the expression 'Going Dutch', it usually indicates that you are in the presence of a cheapskate and should be prepared to cough up the cash to pay for your own drinks/food/drugs, because the other person sure as hell won't do it. For the poor lady in this shot it means not going to a fancy Hotel for drinks after her Wedding, as you can see her Husband stole a bottle and 2 glasses and is inviting her to a royal feast in the middle of a public square...looks like a happy Marriage from over here, haha ;-D

Usually I shoot this building reflected in puddles, but when I walked by a few days ago and saw the flag of the best city in the world proudly wobble around in the radioactive winds, I had to crush a tiny tear running down my cheek because it was so beautiful to see and it made me once again happy, glad and overexcited to realize that I am one of the lucky chosen few who live in the 'City that never sweeps' (you might have noticed our dirty streets)...lucky me!

I was sitting around in my Studio the other day when I heard a commotion on the roof. A duck had found its way up there and was swarmed by seagulls...not sure if they tried to eat the duck (delicious with sweet-sour sauce!) or if they were jealous that Duckie was standing on top of my window getting all the attention. Whatever the cause for the ruckus, I just had enough time to snap 2 shots and a short video of it before it flew away :)

Too bad that my broken cam did not have a wide angle/panorama setting, if I could have followed this scene further to the right, I'm sure the sidewalk and the canal would meet somewhere down the line instead of running parallel to each other for infinity, as they should be...or maybe it's just an optical illusion :)

If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home Right Now! Unedited shot of boats and typical Amsterdam buildings reflected in the Singel canal, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8 before I smashed it in my horrible bike accident. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. This is one of my favorite spots in the best city in the world, the buildings are beautiful, there's plenty of water and in the Summer you can sit on the bridge and have drinks with your friends while watching the boats and bikes go by...I want Spring now but instead it started to snow again today :)

This weekend I saw a movie with Matt Dilon and it reminded me of his old movies 'The Outsiders' and 'Rumble Fish'...I really like both of them and I even fondly remember a time in my life where me and my friends were so enchanted by the story of Ponyboy and his friends that we would quote from the movie often and try to be as rough and tough as the boys in it, we'd only wear Levi's 501's and Chucks all the time, emulating a life style we would not have liked very much if it would have been forced upon us by fate, but on the screen it looked all cool and desirable...stay gold!

Pee-Wee Herman Unedited shot of a boy&his bike, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with a Panasonic DMC-FX35. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I am still in massive pain after my horrible bike accident last Thursday, but at least I have recovered enough to be able to put on clothes by myself and I can even make coffee&smoke, 2 of my favorite activities. It's another beautiful, sunny, cold day in the best city in the world (I've had the first coffee of the day sitting outside in the shiny light, lovely!) and I think I'll spend it doing as little as possible, you should do the same! Enjoy :)

The Amstel is my favorite river, it's big but not too big, it's got pretty houses sitting by its side and in the Summer its full of people and their boats having a good time...I think every city should have a major river to further the fun and friendship among the citizens :)

After the horrible bike accident I've had yesterday, I am forced to sit at home with plenty of pain, waiting for the healing to begin...my knee and hand are bloodied and crusty, my shoulder feels like somebody hit me with a sledgehammer and in general this does not seem to be my week...thank God it's Friday at least. Have a nice weekend and if you get bored, watch the movie that shows my ride towards disaster :D

I had a nasty accident while shooting this Movie today, in the very last scene you can see that somethings wrong, the cam gets all shaky...that was just a split second before I tried to stop, but instead slipped off and slammed with my shoulder into the bench you see me approaching :(( 
I could feel my shoulder pop out of its socket, popped it back in and realized at the same moment that my cam was broken, I'm not sure what hurt more...now I'm sitting at home with plenty of pain, the doc said take some Aspirin and rest, a typical Dutch all-round cure for any kind of health issue, so I guess I'll just walk it off or something...this is the movie of my ride towards disaster :) AmsterS@m Does Democracy Slightly edited mobile phone cam shot of me in the voting booth in Amsterdam. Monday&Tuesday morning the Sun started shining and has brought a lovely, sunny week to the best city in the world...but don't get used to it, the Weatherman says it's going to snow again next weekend! I'm not sure if I can deal with any more of the white stuff, I think I'm going to implode the moment the first flake hits my skin...sigh. Just 17 more days until Spring starts, yay! Unfortunately we'll have less of those lovely days, thanks to the earthquake last week in Chile...weird :)

The trees use those hooks to pull unsuspecting bikers and their steel horses off the street, swing them high up into the air, drop them in their wooden snouts, devouring the poor people and their bikes, only to burp up some wrinkly spokes and crushed bones once they're done...that's why we all bike so fast all the time in the best city in the world ;-))

In the last weeks I sleep for up to 10-11 hours whenever I get a chance, something I'm not used to, my normal night lasts 5-7 hours and I'm fine with that, last year from around September I even had a period where I would wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning and start the day, now it's the exact opposite, I start feeling like I need to hibernate for a couple of weeks or something...maybe I'm just catching up with missed sleep from 2009 :)

Doomed to continue building the new Metro line that will cause the whole beautiful city of Amsterdam to collapse into the giant tunnel system that will be drilled very soon, after decades of delays in the preparations and exploding costs that start more and more to look like the typical price for a month of war in Iraq/Afghanistan/Wherever...those huge holes will probably really good for taking puddle pictures though, so I won't object to the finalization of this megalomaniac project ;-P
