Bye Bye 2009, Hello 2010 :))
Unedited shot of some pretty girls standing around at a red light, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides a touch of added contrast, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. These girls seem to look somewhat critical into the future, or maybe they're just confused that I'm taking their picture in a puddle while they're waiting for the red light to turn green...whatever the reason, I think they should cheer up, as we are at the brink of a new year, a new chance to fulfill our dreams, hopes and good thoughts, to make new friends, make all those things happen that we did not manage to do in 2009 and to make the very best out of 2010 :))
I've made a new wicked reflection movie at the same spot, watch it on my YouTube page
For me personally 2009 has been a tough year with lots of hard work and tons of stress, but also the year of many happy things and events...here are some of the highlights :)

*** December 2009: For the first time ever I've managed to take a puddle reflection shot of myself using the timer of my mobile phone cam
Shouw What You Got
Unedited shot of a mother&child on one bike, reflected in a puddle in front of the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. This mother/child bike situation is a very common one in the best city in the world (and the rest of the country too, of course :), one adult is biking and up to 3-4 kids (bakfiets!) are attached to the vehicle in various positions, either strapped to the bike or hanging from the steel bars in the front, back or side of it, or simply standing on screws or pipes protruding from the main body of their means of transportation, often in a suicidal fashion that clearly indicates that they not care if they live or die, as long as they can force as many bodies onto the metal frame as humanly possible, a bit of a circus-freakshow kinda thing we got going on here, but oh well, it's the 21st century after all :))
I've made a new wicked reflection movies at the same spot, watch it on my YouTube page :)
Fairy Tale City
Unedited shot of a couple on a scooter, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went out to do some puddle hunting and lucky me, the conditions were near perfect, I managed to snap some cool reflection pictures and some new movies as well. I'm always amazed at how wicked and Fairy tale like the best city in the world looks when viewed in a puddle and you'll often find me smiling&making happy sounds when I review the things I've just shot :)
More Wicked Videos
I went outside again yesterday to take new wicked reflection videos, I really like the outcome :))
The Patient Panda
Unedited shot of the lovely Miss Monyart and some tourists, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Last weekend I went downtown to take some puddle pictures and the lovely Miss Monyart joined me to watch me do my wicked thing...unfortunately for her it's very boring to observe the creation of my reflection shots, as I spend all the time running from puddle to puddle, hunching down to take some pictures and hurrying off to the next wet spot. You can see her standing around bored in the background, looking a bit like a Panda who just found out that all the Bamboo in Amsterdam has been uprooted and washed away by the Winter wind...sorry Miss M :)
And this is what Miss Monyart saw while following me :)
If you are a Rastafari and want to smoke tons of Weed to celebrate your religion the proper way, you should consider moving to Italy, it seems that the Italians are trying their best to make up for the war and conquering the Holy Land, hahaha ;-D
I found this hilarious list of 'Do's&Dont's' on the Vice website, check it out :D

Cock-blocking isn't cool, but if witnessing a scene like this doesn't tap into some vestigial "Save the queen" instinct and make you want to do a full-body leap across the table to get his clammy little penis-fingers off of her, you might want to check your chromosomes.
The Space Cadette
Unedited shot of a guy with a big headset, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I really like how this kid looks a bit like a space cadette with his giant headset...they say that listening to loud music in this way can cause severe damage to the hearing but the typical consumer of such gear usually ignores the kind of advice that sounds like it came from his/her parents, so we're probably witnessing a future generation of hard-hearing, iPod-loving world leaders&astronauts growing up at the moment, hehe :)
The Twilight Zone
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of a biker, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Christmas is almost over and now we're stuck in this Twilight-zone between X-Mas and New Years Eve, everybody needs a rest from the last year and most of us are looking forward to 2010, a new beginning, a fresh start with a new hand of cards dealt to us by life...hopefully you've had a chance to spend some quality time with your loved ones, got lots of nice gifts and now you're ready for a new challenge :))
I've also made some new wicked reflection videos, have a look :)
The Pope got attacked by a crazy lady this week but instead of shooting him, she hurled herself at him, not the most efficient way of taking out a (religious) leader...
Ho Ho Ho!
Have a wonderful Christmas time :))
You might have heard of literal videos already, but in case you have not seen this version of 'Last Christmas' yet, do yourself a favor and watch it now, it's hilarious :D
Here are some more good ones :)
This is a slideshow of the 'Smile' group that I've founded on Flickr, every time I look at the photo pool I have to smile :))
Merry Christmas :))
AmsterS@m wishes everybody a very merry Christmas and a great time, have fun, take it easy, enjoy :))
Of course Christmas would not be complete without some proper music :)
Home Sweet Home
After coming home from my weekend trip, I love the best city in the world even more, it's so good to be in Amsterdam, my lovely hometown :)
Let There Be Light!
The 21st of this month was the shortest day of the year, from now on the days are getting longer again and it's almost Spring, yay :D
AmsterS@m's Road Trip
I went for a short trip last weekend and I am very lucky to have made it home, the Winter has caught the Dutch Railways completely off-guard it seems, there were almost no trains and those that actually made it through the snow had massive problems...this is so weird and unusual that even the German Railway folks have offered assistance (English translation) to their Dutch counterpart because they could simply not imagine why their own trains went on time, while the Dutch ones did not go at all, hahaha :D
Here are some pictures from my trip :)
Snowball Fight Gone Bad
It seems that not everybody understands and appreciates the principle of a snowball fight, hehe ;-P
AmsterS@m On The Road
I've left the best city in the world for a long weekend but of course I did not leave without taking some wicked reflections on the way out :))
I have also taken another wicked self-reflections with the timer of my mobile, here it is :))
More AmsterS@m Self-portraits
More wicked reflections
While the world Governments are meeting in Denmark to discuss how to stop Global Warming, the world seems to get hit by a new Ice Age...traffic has collapsed everywhere, people are staying inside because it's too freakin' cold outside and nobody I know remembers a Winter this cold and with so much snow...WTF?!
Unedited mobile phone cam self-shot of AmsterS@m, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Another wicked self reflection, shot using the timer of my mobile phone...today my 3 week Winter vacation starts and I'm leaving the best city in the world for a couple of days, but I'll be back very soon for some serious chilling out and more wonky Ice-puddle pictures :)
More AmsterS@m Self-portraits
More wicked reflections
AmsterS@m On The Rocks
Unedited mobile phone cam self-shot of AmsterS@m, reflected in a frozen puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Another wicked self reflection shot with the timer of my mobile phone in a frozen puddle, had to kick in the ice layer to be able to take this one...today I am very excited and happy, it's my last working day for this year, I'm off for 3 glorious weeks, my first real vacation in one year AND it's been snowing all night, so I woke up to a fluffy, white Amsterdam, yay :D
More AmsterS@m Self-portraits
More wicked reflections
Just some random shots from the best city in the world :))
Unedited mobile phone cam shots of the giant 'I amsterdam' letters outside the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. These 'I amsterdam' letters are becoming our very own version of the 'Hollywood' sign, every tourist is having his/her picture taken while sitting inside the 'd', which of course means that everybody is coming home with the exact same vacation photos from the best city in the world, haha :D
I've had the pleasure of working with the good folks of the 'I amsterdam' campaign earlier this year to promote the 2009 'Queensday' party and we caused an international scandal involving the Presidents Obama and Putin while doing our thing :))
Just some Black/White impressions from the Dam Square in the best city in the world, unedited mobile phone cam shots :))
Unedited shots of the Damrak, reflected in puddles in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went to the city to take some puddle pictures and wicked videos, it was an almost perfect day with lots of sunshine, pretty girls, good coffee and to top it off, a big demonstration on the Dam square of supporters of the right for abortion against a bunch of 'Jesus loves you'-signs holding religious nut cases, divided by a strong police force, proving that Democracy is not dead, it just smells a bit funny :)
And these are the movies from yesterday :)
The Golden Girl
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of a giant poster on the Dam Square in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I really like this poster advertising the fine lingerie of Hunkemöller and if my living room was big enough, I would steal it and hang it up on the wall, haha :D
I've taken a another reflection shot of one of their posters last month already but it seems that I just can't get enough of their delicious advertising :)
Unedited picture taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8 of giant posters, reflected in a puddle on the Rokin in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. The giant H&M posters that are currently plastered all over the best city in the world, advertising lingerie, also look good in a puddle...please ignore the Heineken ad, it's not real beer and will only give you a headache if you try to drink it, hahaha :D
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of the same giant posters and some bikes, reflected in a puddle on the Rokin in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
I also shot some new wicked puddle videos yesterday, as always you can watch them either on my YouTube page or right here, enjoy :)
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of the 'Smokey' Coffeeshop, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. The 'Smokey' Coffeeshop is a landmark in the best city in the world, it's huge, it's red and it's got a confusing name, even though I would never set foot inside it, for fear of being mistaken for a tourist and having to pay unreasonable prices for whatever merchandise it is they're having on offer in there...but just like the 'Bulldog' or the 'Grasshopper', it seems to wildly appeal to the urges of the visitors of Amsterdam, so I guess they're doing something right :)
And another puddle reflection of a famous Amsterdam Coffeeshop, the 'Grasshopper' :)
Christmas Gift Ideas
It's just another 2 weeks until Christmas and you might still be desperately looking for the perfect gifts for your loved ones and I think I've got just the right things for you here...wicked cool 'AmsterS@m' clothing :)
And if you really like the person you're trying to suprise with an original, cool Present, get the 'AmsterS@m' wicked reflection book, there's no better way to show that you care about somebody, hehe ;-P
The Alpha Dog
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of the 'Bulldog' Coffeeshop, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. You might have heard of the 'Bulldog' Coffeeshop, even if you have never been to the best city in the world, it's a Household brand in this wicked world, at least in certain circles...you can find them all over the planet, even though the ones in Amsterdam are probably those that are known the best :)
My personal opinion is that they are tourist-traps, like most of these shops, but if it rocks your boat, don't forget to pay them a visit when you're around, they need the money and I'm sure they have some nice T-shirts, Energy-drinks, Hotel rooms or other likable things that appeal to everybody, not just the smokey people :)

Unedited mobile phone cam shot of a biker, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Last week I read this article about the Dutch Deputy Prime Minister, telling us that all this freedom we have will destroy the planet! This is the article in Dutch and this is the translated English version.
He claims that 'Freedom is not getting rid of limitations...Freedom gets realized by recognizing limitations/borders' (my own translation :) and I guess he's right, I'd only like to add something to that: 'Freedom is Slavery!' 'War is Peace!' 'Ignorance is Strength!' ;-D Did I mention that this guy is one of the

Work Hard, Play Hard
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of 2 stone(d) dudes holding up a balcony, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. If you work a lot, you also need to rest a lot, or alternatively, party a lot...I've worked a looot in the last 1 1/2 years (often feeling like those stone(d) dudes up there!) and now it's time to rest a looot, I am off every Friday since last week and I'm looking ahead to 3 weeks vacation time around Christmas, that I intend to spend in the best city of the world (of course, where else :), taking tons of puddle reflections (or ice reflections, depending on the weather :) and doing some serious chilling out :)))
Slightly edited mobile phone cam shot of the Tattoo shop of Henk 'Hanky Panky' Schiffmacher, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing besides some added contrast&saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Henk Schiffmacher is a living legend, he started the world famous 'Hanky Panky' Tattoo shop in the Amsterdam Red Light District and has made many famous people look more colorful with his Art. In this picture you see his shop on the Ceintuurbaan 416, luckily it had a big puddle just outside the window when I passed by last weekend :)
'1984' Version 2.0
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of 2 guys looking at me, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. This is a very typical situation when I take my puddle pictures, people look at me, not sure what I'm doing and how they should respond to a guy sitting next to a puddle with his mobile phone, waving it at the wet spot, so I've trained myself to respond with this sweet 'I'm not crazy, I'm creative' smile that usually elicits a smile in return, often accompanied by understanding eye winking, from the people walking by :-))
This has very likely saved me from them calling the cops and me spending many nights in jail, as I tend to forget the mandatory ID-card at home and would probably have a hard time explaining to the arresting police officers that I was indeed shooting wicked reflections and not trying to poison the good folks of Amsterdam by attempting to enter LSD or Anthrax into the water-cycle through a puddle...an absurd scenario, but not as absurd as the fact that the Netherlands are the only country in the world where you can get locked up if you don't have an ID-card on you..I know people who got arrested for failing to produce a valid ID and they remained locked up until somebody else would confirm their identity!

Al-Qaida - Muslim Killers
Did you know that Al-Qaida, even though they seem to be on a warpath against the Western Civilization&Values, actually kills a lot more Muslims than Non-Muslims? The 'Combating Terrorism Center at West Point' researched their Bodycount and came up with the following interesting details:
Image 'borrowed' from http://www.wafflesandbeatz.com!
"The results show that non-Westerners are much more likely to be killed in an al-Qaida attack. From 2004 to 2008, only 15% percent of the 3,010 victims were Western. During the most recent period studied the numbers skew even further. From 2006 to 2008, only 2% (12 of 661 victims) are from the West, and the remaining 98% are inhabitants of countries with Muslim majorities. During this period, a person of non-Western origin was 54 times more likely to die in an al-Qaida attack than an individual from the West. The overwhelming majority of al-Qaida victims are Muslims living in Muslim countries..."

I've created some new shirts in the AmsterS@m Shop to accompany the fashionable 'Disease du Jour', the Swine flu ;-D
Why would I make fun of the
Image 'borrowed' from http://timpanogos.wordpress.com!
But don't take my word for it, here's what CNN has to say about this: "There had been no confirmed deaths in the United States related to swine flu as of Tuesday afternoon. But another virus had killed thousands of people since January and is expected to keep killing hundreds of people every week for the rest of the year. That one? The regular flu."
Male Restroom Etiquette
On a lighter note, here's a movie explaining how to behave in the Restroom if you're a man ;-D
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of the legs of the lovely Miss C, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I like girls, they look good and enrich life with their good-lookingness and Beauty...if there was a 'Girls Fan-club', I'd be a member for life and more than happy to pay my monthly fee to support the general 'Girlness' of the world and I'm sure so would most men, hehe :)
Today is 'Sinterklaas', the Dutch Christmas, and all the good kids get gifts, while all the naughty kids get stuffed in a bag and have to go back to Spain with Sinterklaas aka Santa Claus...wait, going to Spain, for free, does not really sound like a punishment, maybe it does pay off to be a naughty kid after all, hahaha. As you can see the lovely Miss C is wearing boots to make sure she'll get the maximum amount of gifts, good thinking :))

Unedited mobile phone cam shot of Me, Myself&I, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. This is the last Self-reflection from this series that I'll post, I promise :)
Today I am not only excited about having managed to shoot myself in a puddle without any help, I'm also overjoyed because as of this week I have a new schedule...I don't work on Fridays anymore!!! Every freakin' Friday I am off and can do whatever I want, enjoy life a lot more, take tons of puddle pictures, drink a million coffees, smoke thousands of cigarettes and meet hundreds of my lovely friends... unless I'm too lazy to do any of those things, then I'll just hang out on my couch with my cool little Netbook, yay :D
Thank God It's Friday!!!

I've posted some wicked reflection videos on my YouTube page last week, don't forget to check them out!
The Cutest Cat Alive
I usually don't like movies of 'cute animals' but this one is a Must-see, I WANT that cat, hahaha ;-D
It seems that the wicked cool Polaroid cameras will be available again soon, yay :D

AmsterS@m The Wicked Reflection
Unedited mobile phone cam shot of Me, Myself&I, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I did it! I finally took a wicked puddle reflection of myself! I am not sure if I am more amazed by this photo or the fact that it took me several years to figure out how to shoot a wet picture of myself without any assistance from others, but here it is, AmsterS@m the wicked Reflection :)
If you're wondering how this is possible, check my pose, it gives away the secret: I've put my phone next to the puddle, supported by a coffee mug, turned on the timer and ran back to the other side of the puddle...unfortunately, or luckily, in this case I prematurely assumed that the picture was ready and walked back towards the cam when it went off, hence the 'dynamic' stride. This makes me so happy! I'll post another one tomorrow and now that I've mastered this whole thing, expect thousands of AmsterS@m puddle portraits, haha :D
More 'AmsterS@m' self shots
More wicked reflections
Unedited shot of a girl on the Dam Square in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing (that's a lie, I cropped it a bit ;), no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
Last weekend I went to the Dam Square to shoot a couple of wicked reflection movies and of course I ended up taking some photos as well...I like this one, it's got a fine Hotel, a giant Schlong (no, wait, that sounds wrong, I don't like giant Schlongs, haha :)), a torso-less head and a pretty girl trying to run away from my the aggressive snapping of my cam, perfect, hahaha. Almost weekend and just 4 more days until Sinterklaas, the traditional Dutch Christmas, yay!
