This Was 2011
Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. The title of today's post is "This Was 2011", even though the year isn't over yet, and I've only done this because I don't want to be the last one who summarizes his year and looks back at the events that graced my life in the mostly awesome, pretty splendid 2011, I mean, it just seems that the year-reviews start earlier and earlier each time around, just like the Christmas decoration gets put up in the shops and streets earlier each season, probably causing us to start celebrating the X-mas time as of Mid-Summer soon. So yeah, I'd rather be too early than too late in saying: 2011 was great, many good things and a few bad things happened to me, but I will always fondly remember it as one of my favorite years of this Millennium, possibly of my whole life. I hope the same goes for you, and that your, and my 2012 will be even better :)

Greetings From Amsterdam
Random shots of Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. As you might know, I love my home town Amsterdam a lot, and one of the many reasons for that is that everything looks so cool. To prove my point, I've taken some random pictures of scenes that I came across while I was walking through the best city in the world, and with a little bit of help from my mobile phone and the Camera360 app, created the pretty shots I've posted today. Luckily not everybody shares the same strong emotional bond with Amsterdam, otherwise we'd have 7 billion people living here, and it would be impossible to bike around without killing hundreds of them by accident. So wherever you are, come and visit us, but then you'll have to go back home, it's in your own best interest, getting hit by a bike is not something you'd write home about (even if you still can), and I'd hate to be responsible for hurting you, thank you! Almost weekend :D

The Bike-Eater Alien Invasion
Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Help!! Amsterdam has been invaded by Bike-eating Aliens, that devour any bike that they can get their slimy hands on, often while the owners are still riding them through the mean streets of the best city in the world! I was lucky enough to capture these horrible events as they happened, in these pictures you can actually see bikers being dissolved and sucked into the vortex of the Alien abyss, never to be seen again! I urge the NATO to start bombing the bases of these greedy creatures from outer space before it's too late and there won't be any bikers left! Naturally, I am mostly concerned for my own well-being, as biking is my sole means of transportation, and I'd just hate to get slurped up into the stomach of a Space Invader through a puddle, just to satisfy their need for metal and rubber! SOS! United Nations, where are you? American Army, invade us now, to save us from this Doom-scenario! Heeeeeelp!!! Hahaha. Have a good start into the new week :D

Occupy Racism Now!
Shots of the 'Zwarte Piet' at the "Occupy Amsterdam" movement @ the Beursplein in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Christmas is just around the corner, and the annual ongoing discussion if the little helper of Sinterklaas, who is called Zwarte Piet, is a symbol for Racism, or just a fun character in a fictitious story to enchant the Dutch children, is flaring up again, and instead of making this season merrier, it is causing a tense atmosphere and many heated arguments on- and offline. One interesting thing I've noticed is, that those defending this traditions seem to be mostly white Dutch people, who see this as a part of their childhood experience that should not be burdened with such a heavy topic as racism, and defend this opinion by saying things like "Zwarte Pieten are black because of chimney soot" or "It's fun for the kids", etc, while those who have faced racism and discrimination in their lives, due to their ethnic background or skin-color, are the ones who feel offended and insulted by Black Peter, and might get beaten up and arrested by the police for voicing their opinion, which speaks for itself you might think. One thing is for sure, if even ze Germans are confused and amused about this issue, and start throwing rocks at the Dutch from their little Glasshouse of a racist past on an industrial scale, the Dutch should realize that something is going really wrong here, and it surely is a situation that needs clarification and correction ;-D

Wicked

Wicked

Wicked
Personally I'm a bit divided on this issue, as I love Christmas and the frolic follies surrounding it, but I'd hate to have a good time by insulting large groups of the population of this country in the process, so I've decided that I'll hit any Zwarte Piet I'll encounter in the streets with my bike, but not in any vital areas of his body, so that he'll be reminded that he's a controversial character, yet he's inhabiting a tiny niche in my heart that is devoted to the childish parts of my inner workings, may all of my friends displaying various beautiful shades of skin forgive me for being such an ignorant, retarded Reflectah ;-)

Wicked Weekend Wetness
Unedited shots of a biker in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went to the city center to shoot some wicked reflections, and there were puddles everywhere, I really had a hard time deciding where to point my camera, and ended up with a bunch of photos of places that I've taken billions and billions of pictures of in the past already, sigh. I don't know what it is about certain streets and buildings that makes them so appealing, maybe it's because they're just oh so pretty, maybe it's because they're en route to the downtown area, or maybe it's just pure laziness on my part. I do hope that you like them anyway, and I that you are not too bored by having to look at them, lol. Enjoy the weekend, have a wonderful time :)

Batman And Robin Were Here!
Slightly edited shots of people outside the Tuschinski Cinema in Amsterdam reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing besides some added contrast and saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I am madly in love with the building that houses the Tuschinski Cinema in Amsterdam, it looks so wicked and beautiful that it makes me want to climb on top of it and search for Super-Villains to fight, which is probably what I'll do once I'm done with my transformation! I think if you squint your eyes and look to the top of the building, you can actually see Batman and Robin hanging out up there, waiting for the Batsignal to shine through the thick fog that is still holding the best city in the world in its greyish grip, but as soon as I'm ready to take over defending my home town from all the lawless elements, I might have to kick them off the Tuschinski and ask them nicely to find some other place for their crime-fighting needs, hahaha :D

AmsterSam The Wicked Transforma
Shots of myself reflected on cars, and a bunch of mailboxes in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. I have a secret to tell you...I was not always a wicked Reflectah, I was born to a pair of human parents (hey Mum and Dad...oh, wait, they don't have Internet, lol ;) and only later in life started to slowly transform into the puddle-loving, mobile-shooting, wicked Dude I am today. The process was mostly pain-free and probably initiated by some cosmic rays penetrating planet Earth, or some poisoned insect biting me, I'll never know for sure, but since this is a fun experience anyway, I will not waste my time trying to figure out the how and what, instead I'm just going to enjoy the ride and see where it takes me. I do hope though that I'm not going to turn green one of these days, it's just no my color, I'd much rather grow some steel-claws, learn how to fly or acquire some other useful features that will aid me in fighting Super-Villains, should the need ever arise. And if there is no worthy Adversary to punch, burn or freeze (as I don't know yet what further transformations I might experience, I can't be too specific on my wicked powers!), I'll just speed-bike through the best city in the world and knock-out those few remaining Junkies who specialize in bike-theft to finance their truly retarded and senseless addiction, mhuahahaha :D

P.s. Yes, I do know and understand that Junkies are not evil people, they're sick, and with the correct treatment, which does not consist of knocking them out, can become valuable members of society again...but if they'd want that, they would not have become Junkies in the first place, or at least that's what my feeble mind tries to make me believe...sorry Heroin-lovers, I could not think of any other population-group to make fun of today, my bad ;-D

P.p.s. Come to think of it, you've stolen so many of my bikes in the past, that actually a little bit of punching might be well deserved...just a tiny little bit, I promise I won't use them wicked steel-claws, or at least not more than necessary, hahaha :D

Greetings From Bikersterdam
Shots of bikes in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. As you probably know (or not), Amsterdam is the bike capital of Holland/Europe/World (no, I did not google this to get my facts straight, I'm going with my gut-feeling here :), and our steel horses are covering large areas of the best city in the world, according to some boring stats, we even have more bikes than people, but I'm too lazy to count them myself, so this is just another unsubstantiated claim I'm making here...well, sort of, since I've provided the link above. The only thing I find surprising about this, is that there are still some people left who don't ride a bike (and yes, I do know some of them personally), a way of living that I can't even begin to imagine...the day I'll be too old to ride a bike will be the day that I'll ask my friends to duck-tape me to the fabulous Lord Bikenheimer, and push me into the Amstel head-first, because it will a very sad day. Of course I'm hoping and wishing, that even if I should make it to a hundred or more years of age, that I'll still be able to fill the hearts and minds of my fellow Amsterdammers with terror and remorse when they see me approaching on my bike with a wicked smile on my wrinkly face, and a "Yippie-Kai-Yay, Motherfucker!" on my old, dehydrated lips, lol :D

Slightly edited shots of the 'Bike Babe' in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing besides some fiddling with the contrast and saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. It's weekend again, the sun is shining, and to show you my appreciation for this lovely day, here are some tiny puddle reflections of the 'Bike Babe', that so many of my viewers seemed to like as much as I do. I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend, I am kind of away for a couple of days, even though I'm not...doesn't make any sense, I know, but that's just me, sometimes I don't even know what I want to say myself, so don't listen to me, just watch that tiny puddle bubble butt doing its thing, lol. IronMan Sam
Slightly edited shot of myself, reflected in my bathroom mirror in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. It's almost Christmas and I am still wearing my short pants, something that clearly does not compute well with some of the people around me, last month I'd already get funny looks and the occasional "Aren't you cold?" (no, I'm not, my body seems to be running on Lava or something, lol ;), by now I get seriously disturbed looks and people actually yell at me in the street when they see me coming on my bike, trying to understand how I can do something that would instantly kill most of them. One guy even biked next to me one morning, all wrapped up in layers and layer of clothes, just to tell me that "It's too cold for shorts!", but before I could even give him my standard reply "Just because you're a Girlieman, doesn't mean that I have to wear long pants, Biatch!", he had frozen into a solid block of meat and fell to the ground, where he shattered into millions of little, sparkly icicles, not unlike that Killing-machine in Terminator 2, hahaha So if you see me wearing my Summer gear, don't worry about me, I'm probably doing much better than you, temperature-wise that is ;-D

F**k You AmsterSam!
Slightly edited shot of myself reflected on the side of a car in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire. As you can see in this picture, not everybody is a friend of AmsterSam, and some people even go as far as giving me the finger, something I can easily live with, I don't need the world+dog to like me, I just need those who call themselves my friend to live up to the word. Luckily, I do have a bunch of those kind of associates that would go through fire for me, as I would for them, but most of the time that is not necessary, as I try to stay away from situations that would require that kind of dedication and effort. Still, it's good to know that there are some dudes and dudettes out there that I can rely on and turn to in times of trouble, you know who you are and I would like to take this chance to thank you for being part of my life, and for having my back, you rock, you kick ass, you are the freakin' best people in the world, and I pity the fool who is not your friend :D

Sam Sung Sony
Slightly edited shot of myself reflected on a friend's mobile phone in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Lately I've been reflecting on my life a lot, and I realized once again that I am a very lucky dude, most things that I care about are going really smoothly and I am majorly enjoying being myself. This is of course not always the case, like everybody else I am facing obstacles on the way towards realizing my dreams and wishes, and sometimes they make me want to hurl myself into the nearest canal (no, I'm not suicidal, I can swim like a freakin' Duck, and I would instantly hurl my wet, shivering body right back into drier areas of the best city in the world, lol ;), but sometimes I get so overjoyed by the luck I am allowed to experience, that I actually start laughing like a Madman, barely being able to grasp the scope of the awesomeness of my existence, and I want to sing and dance in the narrow streets of my beloved Amsterdam. Instead I usually just ride my bike reallyreally fast, with a face that nearly pops open at the seams from the wide grin covering 98% of my egg-shaped head, as I am not a very skilled Singer or Dancer, so if you see a guy on his bike, going by with the speed of light and a retarded, oversized smile plastered all over his face, you've probably witnessed this wicked Reflectah having another extra-special day, and you might want to move to the side of the road, to avoid spoiling it for both of us by getting hit and killed by my ruthless bike, lol ;-D

Attack Of The Killer Birds
Slightly edited shots of Killer Birds in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Yesterday I went downtown to take some photos of the best city in the world, and with shock and horror I had to realize that my beloved Amsterdam has fallen prey to an extremely aggressive flock of birds that attacks anybody who dares coming close to them...the moment I pulled my camera out and pointed it at the scenery, a big, sky-darkening group of Pigeons and Seagulls swarmed down on me, snatched the camera from my shaking hands, hit me over the head with it, grabbed me by my shirt with their sharp, breadcrumb-covered beaks, and dragged me off into the sky, towards their giant nest, to feed me to their hungry, greedy baby-birds as an afternoon snack. Kicking and screaming, I tried to fight back, but soon had to realize that there were too many of them, and as if being fed to little birds wasn't wicked and vicious enough yet, I noticed that they are actually armed to the teeth with man-made cannons that were originally intended for decorating the city center, but have now been turned against the human population of Amsterdam...oh the horror and humiliation! Luckily these are modern birds, and they have a working WiFi connection installed in their home, so I'll keep you informed of my not-too-awesome situation while being nibbled on by our little feathered friends...could be worse I'd say, lol ;-D

Graffiti In The City
Shots of Graffiti in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. I totally love Grafitti, and even though it is still considered Vandalism by some people, I personally think it makes a city look much more colorful and beautiful, of course this only applies if the Artists know what they're doing, and make their work look as pretty as the stuff we have in the best city in the world. Being a very visual person, I prefer actual pictures over tags, but that's just my personal taste, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who consider this to be artsier than this, but you can't argue about taste, everybody has their own preferences, and that's good, because otherwise everything would look the same and our eyes would retract into our skulls and shrink to the size of raisins, lol ;-D

Slightly edited shots of myself reflected in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire. Thank God it's Friday!!! I'm so freakin' tired but also extremely happy, it's been a tough week and I feel privileged that I can already enjoy the sweet fruits of my favorite time, the weekend, the magic time where all work is forgotten and all the fun comes out of its hiding place. I know, I sound like a lazy slob, but that's only because I am! I can't help it, I'm suffering from a severe case of a genetically inferior structure, that forces me to stay home whenever possible, filling the Interwebs with things nobody needs, just so that I don't have to go to the office and make some anonymous rich fat cat somewhere on the planet even fatter and richer, because let's be honest, it's bad for your Karma to accumulate material things for no obvious reason, so I'm really just doing my share to assist the aforementioned anonymous rich bastard dude/dudette in avoiding having to go through endless cycles of death, rebirth, death, rebirth, etc, which makes me a good guy, and my own Karma shine like a polished diamond, lol ;D

The Puddle Race Is On!
Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. It's Thursday and my weekend is going to start today at 17:00, something I'm really looking forward to, it's been a bit of a hectic, exciting and stressful week that had it's high and lows, not unlike any other week, but this one felt special, not sure why, but I try not to think too much about these things anyway, I simply do my best to appreciate the goodness to the max, while happily counting down the hours until the magic time starts again. I intend to do only whatever I really want to do (except of course for all those tasks that won't do themselves, like doing the laundry, my groceries, cleaning the house, etc...I think I need an assistant who's willing to work for free, lol ;), and to spend the next 3 days enjoying all the lovely things that I am currently experiencing in my life, and that I am majorly grateful for. If you are part of my happiness, you'll know what I mean, if you are just an innocent bystander, and have no clue what I'm talking about, just take my word for it, 2011 has been a good year for AmsterSam, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 2012 will be even wickeder and wonderfuller, if that is possible :)

Cross Town Traffic
Unedited shots of a foggy morning in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Last week I shot some pictures while I was biking to work, and amazingly, they turned out kinda cool...if you're wondering why I say amazingly, because I am a very experience Bike-shooter and have posted pleeenty of photos and movies while riding my steel horse in the past, I should add that I took them with my mobile, while biking, in the dark, on a foggy day, on a small bike-path, with traffic coming my way, that's why. I know that it's not the best quality, but this is a bit like giving a gift to somebody, it's the thought that counts, lol. I was told by a friend that my photos are a bit boring and that I'm always shooting the same kind of pictures, and that I am not developing my style, an argument I don't really agree with, but that I am using as an excuse to bore you with these lame, regular, non-reflected shots, happy now?! Just kidding, like I told that friend, constructive criticism and feedback is always more than welcome, I might not act on it, but it's always good to get a 2nd opinion on my activities, so thank you for that my mysterious, unnamed friend, much appreciated :)

The Beck's City In The World
Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. The Dutch seem to have some secret desire to drink German beer, there are signs all over the city promoting Beck's beer or Warsteiner, and I find this highly confusing, I mean we have pleeenty of delicious local beers (and no, I'm not talking about the world-famous Heineken, it is brewed with canal-water, and barely deserves the name beer, yikes!), that invite you to sample their fresh flavor and enjoy their heady way of making life seem more fun and colorful. Maybe these signs are relics from World War II, and we should contact the German Ambassador to come and pick them up, I mean who would want to be reminded of such a dark part of the Dutch history, even if it's done with the refreshing appeal of beer?! What's that? I'm being too serious about this and should have a Beck's to overcome these objections? Ok then, since you're asking so nicely, thanks, Proost, Cheers, enjoy, it's almost weekend now anyway, hahaha :P

Sex, Drugs And Raw Fish
Unedited shots of typical things in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. Amsterdam is world-famous for many things, the most obvious being of course Sex, Drugs and raw Fish....ehm, wait, raw Fish?! Yes, that's right! There are about 35609907 'Haring' stands all over the best city in the world, and you are expected to go there and pay for being given a piece of raw fish covered with raw onions, tilt you head back in a 45 degree angle and swallow that baby in 2 or less bites. Yes, you've heard me right, we expect you to wolf down raw fish covered with raw onions, and you're supposed to enjoy it AND pay for it! Why would we do something so horrible to you? Simple, to avoid that you dare walking up to the pretty girls sitting in the windows, because let's be honest, who has the nerves to walk up to any girl, anywhere, smelling like a dead fish that rolled around in onion-juice for a couple of days?! Nobody, that's who! I have a theory that the working girls made a deal with the fish guys to errect one of their smelly stands on every corner in Amsterdam, just to make sure that their chances of actually having to sleep with you are minimized to about 0.000001%, hahahaha :D

Another Point Of View
Unedited shots of traffic on a bridge in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Sometimes we don't see the goodness that is right in front of our face, and it can be very helpful to change the point of view from which we observe life, which is probably one of the reasons why I love shooting pictures from unusual angles or reflected in puddles, it helps me to remember that most things are not what they seem, that we need to be open for input from all sides, even those we don't expect it to come from. I have personally experienced once again in the last weeks that if I look at something that seemed familiar, it can actually turn out to be something much more joyful, exciting and satisfying than I've considered it before to be. I am happy and grateful for this, and I will do my best to keep the viewfinder of my mind wide open to all sides, to make sure I don't miss out on a single iota of the wicked fun this life has to offer! Thank you life, you rock, hahaha :D

Unedited shots of the Revolution in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went to check out the status of the Revolution, that was kicked off by the 'Occupy Amsterdam' movement a couple of weeks ago, and I shot lots of new pictures, because even though the Revolution will not be Televised, we all need to do our share to make sure that the Rich people understand that we're not going away, we're not playing around, we're not a bunch of Hippies who have nothing better to do. This is for real, we're here to chase you out of your golden Palaces, we're taking back what's ours, we're not going to stop until this world is a better place, so enjoy the useless material things you've accumulated while you still can, keep laughing all the way to the bank, keep pretending that you're still in charge you're the freakin' Dinosaurs of the modern world and there's an Asteroid coming your way, lol :D

I can't recall another period of my life that has so pleased, amused and encouraged me as much the last month or so did, there are just so many great things happening in my life, that even the stoopid things seem like fun, and since this is the real life, of course every day things happen that would usually not make me smile, but I can't help it, I'm grinning like an Idiot Savant 24/7, accepting harsh things coming my way just as happily as those awesome and lovely events that are making me so happy. Of course there have been manymany good times in the past, but currently I feel like I can bike to the Moon and back with no more effort than it takes to hit a tourist in the street with my steel horse, lol :D

Welcome To Brickhead City
Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Sometimes I am wondering if we Amsterdam people have bricks for heads, we often (yes, I'm including myself here as well, because I am sometimes as bricky as the rest of my fellow Amsterdammers) act as if we crawled from under a rock just yesterday, especially when it comes to participating in the public traffic. We never look left or right, we usually don't take anybody else into account and we sure as hell don't give any other biker, pedestrian, car, tram or bus the right to go first, because it's all about Me, Me, Me, so step aside traffic, here I come! Needless to say that this creates extremely dangerous situations all the time, and often enough one or more of us ends up bleeding in the street or crushed underneath some vehicle that was simply bolder and/or stronger than we thought we were, just to get someplace a few seconds earlier, or in the scenario I've just mentioned, never to arrive at all. Again, I am guilty as charged, I'm usually the leader of the pack when it comes to rushing down the street as if my life depended on it, only to make it home those few crucial minutes earlier, and then waste that spare time wondering if I should look at Internet Porn get a bigger bell for my bike, to be able to 'Rrrring Rrrring' everybody else to the side of the road in an even more aggressive, mindless manner...I guess that's just how we roll in the best city in the world, so beware, we don't stop for anybody or anything, unless he/she/it is made out of sturdier material than we are, lol :D

The Office Space
Unedited shots of office buildings in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my HTC Desire. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. For some reason that I fail to understand, Amsterdam is covered with empty office buildings, that are not used for anything besides filling up the empty space of the best city in the world and making the skyline look uglier. Somebody clearly has waaaaaay too much money, almost every month a new office building is being erected somewhere in Amsterdam, only to be doomed to being another empty promise of an accelerating economy that will need all those hundreds of thousands of square meters of extra possibilities to house more wage slaves, slaving away for the benefit of those 1% of fat cats sitting on top of the economy pie like rotten cherries. Once I am in charge of this planet, I will make sure that every single one of those buildings will be remodeled to allow us decent, regular 99% to live in all these pretty, shiny, glorious towers of power, because, let's be honest, unless somebody is going to create some 50 000 new jobs anytime soon, these babies will start molding away before they'll ever even get anywhere near being used for what they were intended for. Rich people, eat your freakin' heart out :D

Welcome Back Summer!
Unedited shots of girls in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. It's almost Christmas, and it's getting warmer and sunnier every day, for the end of this week we're expecting temperatures around 20 C or more...normally I would find this somewhat disconcerting, as it is November now, but considering that this years Summer sucked so badly, I think we more than earned a warm Winter, hehe. I am still wearing T-shirts and shorts, it just feels right, and I don't easily get cold, but it seems that a lot of my fellow Amsterdammers take offense in me enjoying the breezy, fresh air to the max, I get lots of confused, amused and angry looks from those wearing their Winter-gear already, almost as if I was shooting them in a puddle, lol. So if you see me wearing the clothes that you wished you could have worn this Summer, don't be mad, you know how they say, don't hate the Player, hate the Game, hahaha :D
